That renewal notice has been sitting there a while, hasn't it.
Texas wants four hours of continuing education before you renew your cosmetology license. Every two years, not every year. And here is the part most people ignore: the four hours are actually about your work.
One hour is sanitation. Not the poster version. What to disinfect, what to throw away, and when to turn a client away.
One hour is human trafficking awareness, and Texas put it there on purpose.
People sit in your chair for an hour with someone else doing the talking. You are one of the few professionals who might notice. So keep a sharp eye out for anything that doesn't look right.
The last two hours are law and practice. What your license actually lets you do, and where the line is.
There is no exam. Each section ends with a short review that is not graded.
You do not need a card to start. Your progress saves after every slide, so half tonight and the rest between clients is fine. You pay whenever you're ready, before, during, or after the course. Once you have finished and paid, your certificate is ready right then, and we report your completion to TDLR within 24 hours. Then you renew at tdlr.texas.gov.
