Three questions, and then you can get back to work.
First. What do you actually owe? Four hours of continuing education before Texas lets you renew. Every two years, with your renewal. One hour sanitation, one hour human trafficking awareness, two hours law and practice.
Second, and this is the one that trips people up. Why does your course say Barbering and Cosmetology on it? That is not a mistake and it is not the wrong course. Texas runs the two as one program now, so barbers and cosmetologists sit the same hours under the same course number. Yours counts.
Third. How long does it actually take? Four hours means four hours, because Texas counts a CE hour as fifty minutes. That is the state's rule, not something we made up, and it is why the button waits on you. But there is no exam, nothing is graded, and your progress saves after every slide, so you can do it between chairs.
You pay whenever you're ready, before, during, or after the course. Once you have finished and paid, your certificate is ready right away, and we report it to TDLR within 24 hours. Then you renew at tdlr.texas.gov.
